we spent the first two and a half days in the hospital recovering from surgery and monitoring charlotte's vitals. we were able to spend a good deal of time with charlotte, and eli stayed in the room to help out. the nurses had to check charlotte's vitals on a regular basis and she spent the bulk of her first two nights being observed in the nursery -- this is customary with c-births. during this time span eli's parents and siblings as well as 'lissa's father and family got the chance to meet charlotte (or at least to look at her through the glass of the nursery). |

within the first days we started to get to know each other and to function as a family. we could tell her cry from all the other babies' in the nursery. it was quite an amazing time, and we were overwhelmed with all that we were feeling. |

when charlotte was newborn her hair had a definite curl to it. it is now dark and curls a bit when it is wet. her eyes are dark and we are still trying to decide what color they are. her skin glows a healthy pink. |
